Midal Cables was established in Bahrain in 1977 during the Gulf industrialization era, when Bahrain was developing its aluminum downstream industry following the commissioning of ALBA (Aluminium Bahrain) -- one of the world's largest aluminum smelters. Bahrain built ALBA specifically to diversify from oil revenues and create a downstream industrial base; Midal Cables was part of this strategy, using ALBA's aluminum rod as feedstock for electrical conductors exported globally. Midal became a significant regional supplier of overhead transmission conductors to African, Asian, and Middle Eastern utilities, geographic markets where Western conductor manufacturers (Southwire, Nexans, Prysmian) historically underserved due to smaller order sizes and complex logistics. The strategic logic: cheap Gulf aluminum + proximity to developing-world markets = a competitive conductor manufacturer that serves the grid expansion in markets building infrastructure rapidly.
