Producer
North American Helium Inc.
Calgary-based helium producer operating in southwestern Saskatchewan; produces ~85% of Canada's helium output. Holds 5+ million acres of helium rights in the Williston Basin. Operates nine production facilities including the Antelope Lake plant (commissioned September 2024); Mankota JV facility with Helium Evolution Inc. (80/20 split, operational Q4 2025). Origin2023
North American Helium was founded to develop Saskatchewan's helium deposits, which are geologically unusual -- helium occurs in shallow formations without associated hydrocarbons (unlike US Texas/Kansas helium fields where it's mixed with natural gas). Saskatchewan's 'stranded' helium fields can be produced with simple, inexpensive wells and minimal gas processing, making extraction costs potentially lower than gas-associated helium. The company holds 5+ million acres of helium rights in the Williston Basin extending from Saskatchewan. Canada's helium production is strategically significant as one of the few non-US, non-Qatar, non-Russian helium sources -- the other three major sources are the BLM Federal Helium Reserve (Texas), Qatar LNG extraction, and small volumes from Russia and Algeria. Saskatchewan helium represents a potential new source of supply for a market acutely aware after the 2022 Ukraine war that geographic diversification in critical gas markets matters.
