  • Did you know2023

OCI N.V. (OCI Wyoming parent) supplies US domestic nitrogen fertilizer for crop production (Iowa Fertilizer Company -- the largest US ammonia plant built in 25 years when it opened in 2017) AND natural soda ash for glass manufacturing (OCI Wyoming). US corn, wheat, and soybean farmers buying OCI ammonia from the Wever, Iowa plant and US glass manufacturers buying OCI soda ash from the Green River Basin, Wyoming operation share the same Dutch-listed Egyptian-family-owned parent company. A corporate-level OCI N.V. event -- family ownership restructuring, hostile acquisition attempt, or financial distress -- would simultaneously affect US agricultural fertilizer supply (Iowa nitrogen plant) and US glass production raw material supply (Wyoming soda ash). The US agriculture and glass sectors share a foreign-controlled parent without either sector's procurement teams having identified the shared upstream corporate exposure.

  • Origin2023

OCI N.V. (Amsterdam, Netherlands; Euronext: OCI) is a company assembled by the Sawiris family -- one of Egypt's wealthiest business dynasties, whose father Onsi Sawiris built Orascom Construction Industries in Egypt. OCI N.V. was created when the Sawiris family restructured Orascom's fertilizer operations and listed them separately on Euronext Amsterdam in 2013. The Egyptian family's nitrogen fertilizer business -- with plants in Iowa (Iowa Fertilizer Company), Texas, Egypt, and the Netherlands -- became a significant US domestic nitrogen fertilizer producer through greenfield construction. The Wyoming soda ash operation (OCI Wyoming, formerly part of a different OCI structure) is a separate asset from the nitrogen fertilizer business. An Egyptian family conglomerate controls US domestic nitrogen fertilizer production (critical for US corn and wheat yields) AND US domestic soda ash production (critical for US glass manufacturing). Both assets are embedded in critical US supply chains but controlled by a European-listed entity with Egyptian family ownership.
