Poclain Hydraulics
French hydraulic components manufacturer headquartered and primarily manufactured in Verberie, Oise (Route de Compiègne, 60410). Specializes in slow-speed high-torque hydraulic wheel motors (MS series) and hydrostatic transmission systems — distinct from the axial piston pumps/motors of Parker, Danfoss, and Bosch Rexroth. Key agricultural application: on-demand hydraulic 4WD systems for combine harvesters (powers rear axle for additional traction in mud/slopes); also general agricultural drive systems. Produced its 1,000,000th MS motor at Verberie in 2006. "One of the largest suppliers in Europe" in high-torque hydraulic motors. 40+ years of independence (family-controlled). Customers include top-tier agriculture and construction OEMs; specific OEM names not publicly disclosed.

Poclain Hydraulics MS series wheel motors are the dominant technology for one specific but critical agricultural function: on-demand hydraulic 4WD engagement on combine harvesters. When a combine enters wet or sloped terrain, the rear axle engages hydraulic wheel motors to add traction -- the difference between harvesting and getting stuck. Poclain supplies this technology to major combine OEMs including CNH Industrial (Case IH, New Holland) and AGCO (Fendt, Challenger). The same MS wheel motor series also drives the front wheels of heavy forestry harvesters (Ponsse, John Deere Forestry, Komatsu Forest) and the travel drives of rough-terrain cranes -- three industries (grain harvest, timber harvest, heavy lift) sharing identical wheel motor technology from a single 800-person French manufacturer. A French government directive mandating domestic content in agricultural equipment -- or a fire at the Verberie plant -- would simultaneously affect grain harvest capacity, timber extraction, and crane availability.
Poclain Hydraulics ↗Origin2023
Poclain Hydraulics is the direct heir of a French excavator pioneer. The original Poclain company (founded 1927) invented the cable-operated excavator in 1948 and the fully hydraulic excavator in 1960 -- at the time the most significant earthmoving equipment innovation since the steam shovel. Poclain sold its excavator manufacturing to Case Corporation in 1987 after financial difficulties, but retained and spun off the hydraulics components division as an independent entity headquartered in Verberie, Oise (north of Paris). The retained division, renamed Poclain Hydraulics, specialized in the radial piston wheel motor technology Poclain had developed for its own excavator drive systems. The company produced its 1,000,000th MS series motor at Verberie in 2006 -- still family-controlled, still at the original French site, 40 years after Case took the excavators away.
