Realtek is the invisible Taiwanese chip company inside almost every PC. Its audio codec — the "Realtek HD Audio" most people glimpse once in Device Manager — and its Ethernet controller are in a huge share of the world's laptops and desktop motherboards, and its Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and networking chips are in countless consumer devices, routers and TVs. These are commodity mixed-signal and connectivity ICs: not the flashy processor, but the everyday glue chips that handle sound, networking and connectivity — and Realtek is the dominant volume supplier. So while attention fixes on CPUs and GPUs, a single Taiwanese fabless company sits almost unnoticed inside the audio and connectivity of most of the world's computers and a broad range of electronics.
