  • Origin2023

Sellier & Bellot was founded in 1825 by Louis Sellier and Jean-Nicolas Bellot -- two Frenchmen who established an ammunition factory in Vienna, then relocated to Vlasim in Bohemia after a powder magazine explosion. For nearly 200 years, S&B has continuously manufactured ammunition in Vlasim, surviving the Habsburg Empire, WWI, Czech independence, Nazi occupation, Communist nationalization (1948), and post-1989 privatization. After privatization, S&B was acquired by CBC Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos, Brazil's largest ammunition manufacturer, making the oldest continuously operating European ammunition factory a Brazilian subsidiary. CBC itself is partly owned by Czechoslovak Group through a complex holding structure. The 1825 Bohemian factory that has outlived every major political change of Central European history now produces ammunition as part of a Czech-Brazilian defense industrial complex. S&B's Vlasim plant holds the distinction of being one of the world's longest continuously operating munitions facilities, having survived more political regime changes than most countries.
