Producer
Şişecam Group
Turkish glass and chemicals conglomerate (IST: SISE); world's third-largest glass producer. Acquired 60% of WE Soda's U.S. soda ash operations (Sisecam Chemicals Resources LLC + Pacific Soda LLC) for $285.4M in December 2024 — making Sisecam the controlling shareholder of multiple Wyoming trona operations alongside WE Soda. Also owns Pacific Soda LLC 100% (developing new 5 million ton/year Wyoming trona mine). Combined with Ciner/WE Soda (also Turkish), two Turkish conglomerates now control the majority of U.S. natural soda ash capacity. Sisecam is also a major flat glass producer — the same company makes the glass and the primary raw material for the glass.

Did you know2024
Şişecam Group is uniquely vertically integrated in the soda ash-to-glass supply chain: it is simultaneously one of the world's largest flat glass manufacturers AND (after December 2024 acquisitions) a major soda ash producer in Wyoming. Şişecam makes the glass; now it also mines the primary raw material (trona) for the glass. This is the equivalent of a steel mill buying the iron ore mine that supplies it — but in this case it's a Turkish conglomerate buying Wyoming geological assets that supply the U.S. solar panel and automotive glass industries.
Wyoming News / Rocket Miner ↗Origin2023
Sisecam (Turk Sise ve Cam Fabrikalari A.S.) was founded in 1935 as part of Ataturk's state-driven industrialization of Turkey -- a glass company established by the Turkish republic to provide domestic glass production capability and reduce import dependence. The Turkish government established Sisecam as a state enterprise in Istanbul to serve Turkey's industrial modernization. After Turkish privatization waves in the 1990s-2000s, Sisecam transitioned to private ownership with the Isbank Group as a major shareholder. From a 1935 state glass factory, Sisecam expanded to become the world's third-largest glass producer through acquisitions in Italy (Sangalli vetro), Bulgaria (Trakya Glass), and the US (WE Soda/Pacific Soda Wyoming soda ash, December 2024). The Wyoming acquisition -- 60% of WE Soda US operations plus 100% of Pacific Soda LLC -- made Sisecam a trona miner in the same state (Wyoming) that produces the raw material for its global glass manufacturing, completing a vertical integration from geological mineral to finished glass product across two continents.
