Concentration2024
SK Enmove (Ulsan, South Korea) produces approximately 40% of the world's Group III base oil (Yubase brand) from a single refinery in South Korea. Mobil 1, Shell Helix Ultra, Pennzoil Platinum, and dozens of other "synthetic" or "full synthetic" engine oils sold in the US and Europe source their base oil from SK Enmove's Ulsan plant. The South Korean company that makes premium synthetic engine oils for Western oil brands is almost completely invisible in consumer awareness of lubricant supply chains. When you change your oil to "full synthetic," you are most likely pouring Korean-refined petroleum into your engine.
