Suzhou Wuyue was founded in November 1985 in Mudu Town, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province -- founded during China's early Reform and Opening period when Suzhou was beginning to develop the industrial parks that would eventually make it China's manufacturing hub for electronics and advanced materials. Suzhou sits adjacent to Shanghai in the Yangtze River Delta, with access to phosphate mineral inputs from Yunnan Province (via the rail and river network) and proximity to China's chemical industry infrastructure. Wuyue's founders positioned the company to serve China's emerging domestic fire safety market, which was mandating fire extinguisher installation in buildings for the first time. The company obtained Western certifications (UL, EN615) in the early 2000s and began exporting ABC powder to fill extinguishers sold under Tyco, Ansul, and UTC brands. By 2020, Suzhou Wuyue claimed 60,000 metric tons per year of dry chemical capacity -- making it the largest single fire extinguishing agent producer in the world, operated from the same Mudu Town location it has occupied since 1985.
