Valmet Oyj emerged from the 2013 demerger of Metso Corporation — itself formed from the 1999 merger of Neles Controls (flow control valves, Finland) and Rauma (Finnish forest industry equipment), plus Nokia's machinery division. The 'Valmet' name was revived from a Finnish state company (Valtion Metallitehtaat — State Metal Works) that had been established in 1943 to produce military equipment and eventually became Finland's leading engineering manufacturer. The original Valmet had a remarkable diversification: it simultaneously made fighter jets (licensed Fouga Magister for the Finnish Air Force), agricultural tractors (Valmet tractors), paper machines, and automobiles (in Uusikaupunki). Valmet Automotive — the car manufacturing subsidiary — eventually separated and became an independent company that today manufactures the Ford Mustang Mach-E and has produced vehicles for Porsche, Mercedes, and Fisker. The corporate lineage: Finnish state arms/machinery manufacturer → forest industry equipment → global pulp/paper technology company. The same heritage that made Finland's fighter jets and tractors now builds the tissue machines inside which BEKP pulp becomes Kleenex.

Valmet controls the entire technology stack for the tissue paper supply chain: from pulp mill equipment (Valmet digesters and bleach plants that produce the NBSK/BEKP pulp), through tissue machine (Advantage full tissue lines with Yankee dryers), to mill process automation (Valmet DNA control system). A tissue mill operating Valmet equipment from pulp to finished roll is using Valmet technology at every major process step — the Finnish company effectively controls the capital equipment and automation systems at the core of global tissue manufacturing. Valmet also makes the forming fabrics, press felts, and dryer fabrics that are consumables in paper machine operation — providing recurring revenue across the paper machine's operational life. The same Valmet Yankee dryer that dries tissue paper is used in tissue machines for toilet paper (consumer hygiene), facial tissue (consumer hygiene), kitchen towels (consumer), AND pharmaceutical packaging tissue (regulated healthcare). Same Valmet Finland-made cylinder, different end product depending on what pulp goes in and what specifications the tissue is manufactured to.
