Wynca (along with Nantong Jiangshan, Zhejiang Jinfanda, and other Chinese producers) produces approximately 70-80% of global glyphosate — the world's most widely used herbicide. Brazilian soybean farmers, who produce ~35% of global soy on Roundup Ready varieties, depend on competitively priced Chinese glyphosate. When China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment tightened environmental enforcement on chemical plants in 2018-2021, glyphosate technical supply from China fell and global prices nearly doubled. This demonstrated that Chinese domestic environmental policy directly determines herbicide availability and prices for Brazilian, Argentine, and US grain farmers. Wynca also makes glufosinate — the competing herbicide in the Bayer LibertyLink system for farmers using non-Roundup tolerance traits. A single Chinese company makes both the dominant Roundup Ready system herbicide AND the primary alternative herbicide system, making Chinese chemical regulation a price-setter for multiple competing US crop protection systems simultaneously.
