ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor Coke Plant — East Chicago, Indiana
One of ArcelorMittal USA's integrated steel mill coke plants; produces metallurgical coke for blast furnaces AND coal tar as a mandatory byproduct. Coal tar is sold to Koppers under a long-term supply agreement for conversion into creosote. Indiana Harbor is one of the largest integrated steel complexes in North America. The coal tar produced here ultimately ends up preserving railroad crossties across the US freight rail network.
