Facility
BASF Ludwigshafen Vitamin Production
BASF Verbund site, Ludwigshafen am Rhein (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany) — largest integrated chemical complex in the world by site area. BASF's vitamin synthesis (Vitamin A, Vitamin E, beta-carotene) is embedded in the Verbund: intermediate precursors flow by pipeline from adjacent BASF crackers and reactors. The integration means Vitamin A synthesis shares feedstocks with fragrance and aroma chemicals (isoprenoid pathway). Site employs ~39,000 people.
