Duke Energy Carolinas FGD Gypsum Operations
Duke Energy sells synthetic FGD gypsum from coal plant scrubbers to wallboard manufacturers and cement mills in the Carolinas region. As Duke retires coal capacity (accelerating under its Clean Energy Transition plan), FGD gypsum supply from these units structurally declines. Each GW of retired coal capacity removes ~30,000-50,000 t/year of synthetic gypsum supply.
