Evonik MetAMINO Theodore Alabama Facility
Evonik's Americas DL-methionine hub; ~245,000 MT/year capacity; in operation since 1977 as one of the original commercial methionine plants. February 2022: Evonik announced $176.5M investment for a new methyl mercaptan (MMP intermediate) plant at this site, reducing dependence on Antwerp-sourced intermediates and cutting CO2 footprint ~7%. One of only two methionine production sites in the entire Western Hemisphere (the other is Novus Chocolate Bayou TX). Serves North American poultry, pet food, and aquaculture markets.
