Ferrellgas Iowa Bulk Propane Distribution Hub (Des Moines area)
Ferrellgas operates bulk propane storage and distribution infrastructure in Iowa to serve the state's high-density grain drying market. Iowa is the nation's top corn producer (~2.3 billion bushels/year) and its grain dryer propane demand during September-November harvest represents Ferrellgas's highest-volume seasonal delivery period. Bulk propane storage tanks at agricultural cooperatives and grain elevators (typically 18,000-30,000 gallon above-ground tanks) are pre-filled by Ferrellgas in August-September in advance of harvest. Iowa's rural geography — with many farms 20+ miles from natural gas pipeline access — makes propane the de facto grain-drying fuel for small-to-mid-size operations.
