Freeport-McMoRan Safford SX-EW Operations (Safford, AZ)

SX-EW (solvent extraction / electrowinning) copper cathode operation at Safford, Graham County, Arizona. Produces ~100,000 tonnes of LME-registered copper cathode per year from oxide ore without conventional smelting. Noted as one of the most sustainable copper operations in the Americas — uses minimal water (closed-loop process), produces no SO2 emissions (no smelting furnaces), and operates a low-carbon direct-cathode process.
