Rijk Zwaan's De Lier campus houses proprietary germplasm collections representing decades of lettuce breeding — including disease-resistance sources for downy mildew (Bremia lactucae), which is the primary disease threat to commercial lettuce production globally. Rijk Zwaan's lettuce varieties are particularly dominant in the Benelux, UK, and Iberian Peninsula fresh lettuce markets.
