Xinlong Group Meltblown Expansion (Guangdong, China)

Xinlong Group (Guangzhou; one of China's largest nonwoven manufacturers) massively expanded meltblown capacity during 2020-2021, adding over 200 meltblown production lines as part of China's national surge to dominate global mask fabric supply. Pre-COVID, Xinlong produced primarily spunbond nonwovens for hygiene. The COVID build-out transformed Chinese meltblown capacity from roughly 6,000 tonnes/year to over 100,000 tonnes/year within 18 months — a 17x increase. However, much of the surge capacity was low-quality and produced off-spec fabric that failed NIOSH N95 tests; Chinese quality control issues contributed to mask recalls in 2020.
