Human milk oligosaccharide produced via engineered microbial fermentation. 2'-FL is the most abundant HMO in human breast milk, functioning as a prebiotic. Abbott first obtained FDA GRAS status (2014) for US infant formula. DSM-Firmenich and BASF (via Glycom, acquired 2020 for $960M) are primary industrial producers.
