Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) Hydrophilicity Modifier
Water-soluble polymer added to the spinning dope to increase membrane hydrophilicity and permeability. PVP K30 and K90 grades are used at 5–15% concentration in PSU/PES spinning dopes. Without PVP, polysulfone membranes are too hydrophobic for clinical use. BASF's Kollidon brand and Ashland Chemical are major producers.
