The Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security (for the Coast Guard when it is not part of the Navy) must make rules, use practical methods, and provide needed facilities to find, treat, and help service members recover from eating disorders. “Necessary facilities” include those that provide the services listed in section 1079(r)(1). Residential care is allowed only if the member’s main diagnosis is an eating disorder and inpatient treatment is medically indicated under section 1079(r)(1)(B). “Eating disorder” means what is defined in section 1079(r).
