The Secretary of Defense can pay a uniform allowance to civilian Defense Intelligence Agency employees who are assigned to a Defense Attaché Office outside the United States and who are required by regulation to wear a uniform. Despite section 5901(a) of title 5, the amount must be the larger of the pay given to State Department employees abroad who must wear uniforms or the maximum in section 1593(b) of this title. The allowance is handled the same way as in subsection (c) of section 5901 of title 5.
