§2001 Human Relations Training

Summary

The Secretary of Defense must make sure each military department gives ongoing human relations training to every service member. The training covers things like race issues, equal opportunity, preventing gender discrimination, and spotting hate-group activity. It must happen in basic or initial training and then regularly. Unit commanders must know they are responsible for stopping discriminatory actions in their units. People about to enter officer training or sign their first enlistment must be told what the oath means for equal protection and civil liberties under the Constitution. They must also be told that if they cannot personally support those guarantees, they should not join.
