The Secretary of Defense may set up a military nursing research program at the University. Military nursing research means study of the nursing care and services given in the armed forces. The TriService Nursing Research Program is the name of that program. A TriService Nursing Research Group of Army, Navy, and Air Force nurses chosen by their service secretaries will run the program. The group must create recommended rules for asking for, reviewing, and funding research. It must also share information and expertise with service nurses and Defense officials about ongoing and planned nursing research. The research covers 11 areas, including care in peace and war, preventing complications from battle injuries and patient transport, training methods, clinical issues (like child and spouse abuse), women’s health, wellness, preventive medicine, home care, and case management.
