No later than one year after this section was enacted, the Secretary of Defense must put these responsibilities into a single DoD office. That office will supervise military department offices that handle shipment, storage, orders, and private vehicle moves for permanent change of station. It will also supervise the Defense Personal Property Management Office (or its successor) and the adjudication of claims under the defense personal property program, including claims under 10 U.S.C. 2636(a) and 31 U.S.C. 3721. Those responsibilities may not be assigned to any combatant command. The defense personal property program runs the DoD system for moving baggage and household effects for service members and DoD civilian employees.
