Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle A— General Military Law › Part IV— SERVICE, SUPPLY, AND PROPERTY › Chapter 163— MILITARY CLAIMS › § 2739
Money a military department recovers from a third party for loss or damage to personal property shipped or stored at Government expense must be credited to the current appropriation that pays those claims. The recovered money is combined with that appropriation and can be used for the same time period and purposes. "Appropriate current appropriation" means the account available on the date of collection for paying those loss or damage claims. A "qualifying military department third-party collection" means amounts recovered under 31 U.S.C. 3711, 3716, 3717, and 3721 from a third party for loss or damage that the Secretary already paid the owner to settle.
