§2787 Reports of Survey

Summary

Officers of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, and DoD civilian employees named under the rules must handle survey reports and payment vouchers about U.S. property they control when that property is lost, spoiled, no longer usable, unsuitable, destroyed, or damaged. Those decisions are final except when someone is held financially responsible. If money is charged, the decision must be approved by a person picked by the Secretary of the relevant military department, a combatant commander, or the Director of a Defense Agency who has authority over the person charged. That approver must be an officer or a DoD civilian under that official’s authority. The Secretary of Defense must write the rules to make this work.
