§6142 Tritium Recycling

Summary

All tritium recycling for weapons, including refitting, and all tritium work moved from the Mound Plant (Ohio) must be done at the Savannah River Site (South Carolina). Los Alamos (New Mexico) may do tritium research, support the defense inertial confinement fusion program, and help Savannah River with weapons surveillance.

Title 10, §6142

(a)Except as provided in subsection (b), the following activities shall be carried out at the Savannah River Site, South Carolina:
(1)All tritium recycling for weapons, including tritium refitting.
(2)All activities regarding tritium formerly carried out at the Mound Plant, Ohio.
(b)The following activities may be carried out at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico:
(1)Research on tritium.
(2)Work on tritium in support of the defense inertial confinement fusion program.
(3)Provision of technical assistance to the Savannah River Site regarding the weapons surveillance program.

A prior section 6142, act Aug. 10, 1956, ch. 1041, 70A Stat. 382, provided for assignments of pay due to enlisted members. See section 705 of Title 37, Pay and Allowances of the Uniformed Services, prior to repeal by Pub. L. 87–649, § 14c(38–43), Sept. 7, 1962, 76 Stat. 501, effective Nov. 1, 1962. Provisions similar to those in this section were contained in section 2542 of Title 50, War and National Defense, prior to repeal by Pub. L. 119–60, § 3111(b)(1).
