§617 Reports of Selection Boards

Summary

Each selection board under section 611(a) must send the Secretary of the military department a written report signed by every board member. The report must list the officers the board recommends for promotion and say that the board carefully reviewed the records of every officer whose name it received under section 615, and that a majority of board members believe the recommended officers are the best choices to meet the service’s needs based on guidance under section 615(b). The report must also name any regular or reserve officer considered for promotion whom a majority thinks should, under chapter 60 or 1411, be required to show cause for staying on active duty. It must list any officer the board considered but did not recommend if that officer asked not to be selected or caused their own nonselection by written communication under section 614(b). When allowed under section 616(h), the report must name officers the board wants placed higher on the promotion list and state the order.
