Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle A— General Military Law › Part VI— ELEMENTS OF DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE AND OTHER MATTERS › Subpart B— Atomic Energy Defense › Chapter 608— ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS › Subchapter II— RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT › § 6340
Any money authorized for fiscal year 2026 or later for the Administration for AI research, AI programs, or related computing hardware and infrastructure may only be used to support the Administration’s nuclear security missions. That limit does not stop other parts of the Department of Energy or other federal agencies from creating long-term national security AI research programs. It also allows the Administration’s resources, including national security labs or nuclear weapons production sites, to help such programs if they charge full cost recovery (including infrastructure and utility costs) to organizations outside the Department of Energy and if the help does not interfere with the lab’s or site’s nuclear security work.
