The Secretary of the Army may charge a fee when someone asks for information from the United States Army Military History Institute. No fee can be charged if the request is to carry out a duty as a member of the armed forces or as a U.S. officer or employee, or if the request is a release under section 552 of title 5. Fees cannot be higher than the cost of providing the information. Money collected must go back to the appropriation(s) that covered those costs in that fiscal year. United States Army Military History Institute — the Army archive the Secretary names as the primary archive for Army historical records. "Officer of the United States" and "employee of the United States" — have the meanings given in sections 2104 and 2105 of title 5.
