§7724 Executive Director

Summary

Creates an Executive Director for the Army National Military Cemeteries who must meet the qualifications the Secretary of the Army sets. The Executive Director reports directly to the Secretary of the Army. The Executive Director runs all parts of the cemeteries. They must keep track of every grave and inurnment niche, manage building, repair, and utility work, and handle buying and caring for cemetery land. They plan and run private and public ceremonies, make and enforce rules for memorials and monuments, and create a master plan for Arlington National Cemetery covering capacity, visitors, operations, upkeep, money needs, and preservation. They also manage budgets and funds, advise on exceptions to burial rules, and supervise the cemetery superintendents.
