When suitable Navy hospital facilities are not available, the Secretary of the Navy may send naval service members who would get Navy hospital care to other United States hospitals if the agencies that run those hospitals agree. The cost is charged to the same Navy funds that would have paid for care in a naval hospital. A deduction under section 4812 of the Revised Statutes (24 U.S.C. 16) must be taken from the accounts of members hospitalized this way.
