Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle C— Navy and Marine Corps › Part IV— GENERAL ADMINISTRATION › Chapter 863— NAVAL VESSELS › § 8686
The Secretary of the Navy can help an organization that is receiving a Navy ship or ship equipment being transferred under sections 2572, 8676, 8677, or 8765 of the law, or under any other legal authority. The help applies only when the vessel is decommissioned, owned and kept by the Navy at a Navy site and not in active use, and when the ship or its equipment is going to an organization the Secretary or law has named. The Secretary can make the recipient pay back the Navy for the help. Money paid back in a fiscal year goes into that year’s operation and maintenance fund for the office that manages inactive ships and can be used for the same purposes and time as that fund.
