Creates a major Air Force command called Air Force Global Strike Command. Its leader must hold the grade of general while in the job. The President appoints the commander to that grade and the Senate must confirm. The commander keeps their permanent grade. The commander is the single person answerable to the Secretary of the Air Force and the Air Force Chief of Staff for the command’s missions that support U.S. Strategic Command. The commander runs all Air Force nuclear and long-range strike work. That covers nuclear weapons, weapon delivery systems, long-range bombers, and command, control, and communications for nuclear forces. The commander must keep forces ready for Presidential and combatant commander orders; organize, train, and equip those forces; check and report on readiness regularly; lead development of requirements, budgets, long-term investment plans, and tactics for deterrence and long-range strike; advise the Secretary on resources; and do other tasks the Secretary finds needed.
