Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle D— Air Force and Space Force › Part II— PERSONNEL › Chapter 943— RETIRED GRADE › § 9343
When a Reserve enlisted Air Force member retires under the reserve retirement rules, they must be retired at the highest enlisted rank they once held and performed satisfactorily on active duty (or on full-time National Guard duty), as decided by the Secretary of the Air Force. This applies if, at retirement, they hold a lower rank than that highest rank and if their earlier reduction in rank was an administrative action not caused by their own misconduct. It applies to retirements after September 30, 1996.
