Title 14 › Subtitle SUBTITLE II— PERSONNEL › Chapter 19— COAST GUARD ACADEMY › Subchapter III— FACULTY › § 1945
Coast Guard professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and instructors follow the same retirement and discharge rules as other commissioned officers, with some exceptions. They are not forced to retire under certain other rules and may serve until age 64 instead of being required to leave at age 62. The Secretary can retire a permanent commissioned teacher after 30 years of active service. Time as an Academy civilian teacher and any prior qualifying military service count toward retirement. Teachers on temporary appointments are not eligible for line-of-duty disability retirement.
