Title 14 › Subtitle SUBTITLE III— COAST GUARD RESERVE AND AUXILIARY › Chapter 39— COAST GUARD AUXILIARY › § 3911
Coast Guard money can pay actual travel and meal costs, or a cash meal allowance, for Auxiliary members doing approved Coast Guard duties. It can also pay actual operating costs for any motorboat, yacht, aircraft, radio station, or motor vehicle used under section 3907(b) while on Coast Guard duty. The funds cannot be used to pay people for work related to those operations, except for Coast Guard or Reserve personnel. "Actual necessary expenses of operation" means things like fuel, oil, power, water, supplies, food, repair or replacement of equipment, and payment for loss or damage of the listed craft or equipment when the Coast Guard is found responsible under the rules. If a claim under these rules is not paid within 60 days after it is filed as the Secretary requires, the Secretary may add interest. The interest rate is the annual rate set in section 6621 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
