The Coast Guard can, when properly asked, use its people and equipment (including the Auxiliary and certain Coast Guard facilities) to help federal, state, territorial, local, and D.C. governments, and U.S. possessions, with tasks it is especially trained to do. The Commandant can set rules and require payment. With an agency head’s OK, the Coast Guard can use staff, advice, information, or facilities from other government bodies. It may pay travel and daily expenses for state or local workers under the standard Federal travel rules.
