Title 14 › Subtitle SUBTITLE I— ESTABLISHMENT, POWERS, DUTIES, AND ADMINISTRATION › Chapter 9— ADMINISTRATION › Subchapter I— REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY › § 914
The Commandant may dismantle or get rid of Coast Guard property used for the LORAN–C system. The Commandant must first notify the Secretaries of Transportation and Defense in writing and wait 90 calendar days. If, within 90 days, either Secretary notifies the Commandant in writing under section 312(d) of title 49 that the property is needed to provide backup positioning, navigation, and timing if GPS is disrupted, the Commandant must transfer the property to the Department of Transportation at no cost. If no notice is given, the Commandant must tell the House and Senate transportation and appropriations committees that 90 days have passed and may then proceed with dismantling and disposal (real property handled under section 2945). The 90‑day wait does not apply to actions needed to protect human life.
