§1692h Multiple Debts

Summary

When a person owes more than one debt and sends a single payment to a debt collector, the collector must not use that money to pay any debt the person is disputing, and must follow the person’s directions about how to apply the payment when possible.

Title 15, §1692h

If any consumer owes multiple debts and makes any single payment to any debt collector with respect to such debts, such debt collector may not apply such payment to any debt which is disputed by the consumer and, where applicable, shall apply such payment in accordance with the consumer’s directions.
