Title 15 › Chapter 49— FIRE PREVENTION AND CONTROL › § 2203
Defines key words used in this chapter. It names who or what each term refers to so the rest of the law is clear. "Academy" means the National Academy for Fire Prevention and Control. "Administration" means the United States Fire Administration created under section 2204 of this title. "Administrator" means the head of the U.S. Fire Administration, unless the law says otherwise. "Administrator of FEMA" means the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. "Fire service" means any group in a State with people, vehicles, and equipment whose job is to protect property and public safety from fire, including private fire brigades; members can be paid, unpaid, or both, and such groups may serve federal sites, states, cities, counties, tribes, fire districts, or other local units. "Indian tribe" and "tribal" use the meaning in section 5304 of title 25. "Local" means things related to a city, town, county, special district, unincorporated area, or other local government part of a State. "Place of public accommodation affecting commerce" means inns, hotels, or similar non‑federal lodging for transient guests, but not places treated as apartment buildings by state or local law or places inside a building that have not more than 5 rooms for rent and are actually the proprietor’s home. "Secretary" means the Secretary of Homeland Security, except where the law provides otherwise. "State" uses the meaning in section 101 of title 6. "Wildland‑urban interface" uses the meaning in section 6511 of title 16.
