§235 Sale or Shipment of Barrel of Less Capacity Than Standard; Punishment

You cannot sell or ship any barrel of fruits, vegetables, or other dry goods in or from the United States if the barrel holds less than the standard third, half, or three‑quarters barrel sizes set by law. If someone willfully breaks this rule, they commit a misdemeanor and can be fined up to $500 or jailed for up to six months in federal court. A barrel made to a foreign buyer’s instructions and sent abroad is not treated as undersized so long as it does not violate that foreign country’s laws.
