Title 15 › Chapter 16B— FEDERAL ENERGY ADMINISTRATION › Subchapter II— OFFICE OF ENERGY INFORMATION AND ANALYSIS › § 790g
The Director, working for the Administrator, may get energy information from any federal agency. Two exceptions apply: if a law clearly forbids sharing the information, or if the agency says sharing it would seriously hurt its ability to do its legal duties. If information is denied for those two reasons but is needed to carry out this law, the Administrator or the Director must use their legal authority to obtain it from the original source or a suitable alternate. The source must be told why the information is being requested.
