§8933 Nationwide Sampling

Summary

The Director must run a nationwide survey to measure how much highly fluorinated compounds are in many water sources and in soil, using the testing standard made under section 8932(a). The survey covers waters like rivers, lakes, wells, aquifers, wetlands, springs, and estuaries, and also soil. The Director must first test drinking water near places with known or suspected releases. Those drinking-water tests must be done before any treatment and, if the Administrator asks, after treatment too. The survey must check ecological exposure but give priority to direct human exposure through drinking water. The Director must work with States to pick priority areas and with the Administrator to expand coverage and avoid duplicate work. Within 120 days after finishing the sampling, the Director must send a report of the results to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the House Committee on Natural Resources, the Senators from each sampled State, and each Member of the House whose district was sampled.
