Summary

Gives plain meanings for words used in the part about contaminants in drinking water. Contaminant means any physical, chemical, biological, or radiological matter found in water. Contaminant of emerging concern (or emerging contaminant) means a contaminant for which the EPA Administrator has not set a national primary drinking water rule and that may harm people’s health. Federal research strategy means the coordinated, cross-agency plan made by the Office of Science and Technology Policy to fill research gaps about detecting, measuring exposure to, and finding health effects of emerging drinking-water contaminants, developed in response to the Senate Appropriations Committee report that accompanied S. 1662 of the 115th Congress (S. Rept. 115–139). Technical assistance and support means help like choosing and fixing lab methods, advising on lab certification, explaining results, training on lab techniques, finding treatment technology, and analyzing samples when no practical alternative exists and a federal lab can do the work. Working Group means the group set up elsewhere in this subchapter.
