The President appoints a United States Commissioner to the Commission. The Commissioner serves as long as the President wants. The President may also pick one Native from each of the two inhabited Pribilof Islands to be Advisors and to act as liaisons with island Natives, and may appoint other interested people as Advisors. Those Advisors serve as long as the President wants. The President may appoint a Deputy United States Commissioner who also serves as long as the President wants. The Deputy is the Commissioner's main adviser and will perform the Commissioner's duties if the Commissioner dies, quits, is absent, or is ill. The Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Advisors do not receive pay for their services. They may be reimbursed for travel costs and given a per-day allowance instead of subsistence at the rates allowed by section 5703 of title 5 when working on Commission duties.
