Title 16 › Chapter 49— FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION › § 2906
The Secretary must make rules for reimbursements to States under section 2905 to protect the United States. States and their designated state agencies must keep whatever records the Secretary requires to show how much was spent and why for costs they seek to be paid back. The Secretary and the Comptroller General, or their authorized representatives, may examine and audit those records. If, after giving notice and a chance for a formal hearing, the Secretary finds a State got reimbursement it was not eligible for or broke any rule, the State cannot get more reimbursement until it repays what the Secretary requires, stops the violation, or fixes any harm.
