§3323 Approval and Funding of Projects

Summary

The Secretary, working with the Secretary of Commerce, can approve projects that match an approved enhancement plan and follow this chapter. The Secretary must quickly tell the States and treaty tribes, and anyone else who asks, that a project is approved and how much money from this chapter it will get. Each year the Federal government can pay no more than 50 percent of the total spent on these enhancement projects, except that limit does not apply to projects proposed by treaty tribes through their tribal coordinating body. A State can meet its share with real or personal property and it keeps ownership. The State of Washington is treated on December 22, 1980 as having spent $32,000,000 (reduced by the amount treated as expended under section 3336 of this title) on eligible projects. The Federal share will be paid in amounts and at times the Secretary decides, consistent with this chapter and the plan’s goals.
